There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear….Perfect love casts out fear 1 John 4:18 (ESV). Think about that and then think about the way that we as humans love. I don’t have perfect love and chances are, you don’t have perfect love either. We are called to love the same way that Christ loved. Jesus says in Matthew 5:44 to love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you. And of course, Jesus showed us how to do that when he uttered the most loving words ever heard. “Father God forgive them, for they know not what they do.” But even though we know how we are supposed to love, we all fall short at times.
Now think about your closest relationships. When you feel truly loved, you have a stronger sense of security. We all tend to feel safer when we are around those that we love the most. Why is it that many times we feel so much safer in human relationships than we do when we are alone with God? Maybe it’s the physical touch…a hug, holding someone’s hand. But If you and I don’t have perfect love, then doesn’t it stand to reason that we should feel safer with the one who does have perfect love? Only God truly has perfect love. So it is safe to say that when we rest in God’s love, his perfect love, we should have a complete sense of security. No worries, no anxiety, and no fear.
Praying that God will bless you with his joy and peace wherever you are at today. And in those moments when you feel like you are wandering through the desert I pray that God would give you a clear sense of direction and strength for the journey.
